Terms of service

The terms under which this service is provided. Written to be readable rather than impressive.

What this service is

NoMoreData is a tool for inspecting, removing and editing the metadata of the file formats listed on the formats page, which is generated from what the software can actually do. The free tools run in your browser. The API, described on the API page, runs on our servers.

The service is provided as it is. We work to keep it correct and available, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted availability on the self-serve plans.

Acceptable use

You may not use this service to:

  • process files you have no right to process;
  • produce material intended to deceive a person or a system about the origin, authorship or authenticity of a file — including forging documentation, fabricating evidence, or misrepresenting who created something;
  • attempt to circumvent plan limits, quotas or authentication;
  • upload content that is unlawful, or that you are prohibited from distributing;
  • disrupt the service or the use of it by others.

Metadata editing is a legitimate function with legitimate uses — correcting a wrong timestamp, setting consistent authorship, removing an identifier. It is not a way to make something appear to be what it is not. See metadata vs content provenance for why metadata proves nothing either way.

Your files

You keep all rights in the files you process. We claim none. Files sent to the API are held in memory for one request and released with the response; they are not stored, not logged, and not used for training or analytics. The browser tools upload nothing at all.

Details are on the privacy page, which describes what the code actually does.

Accounts

You are responsible for keeping your password and API keys confidential. An API key authenticates requests as you; treat it like a password. You can revoke a key at any time from your dashboard.

We may suspend an account that is being used in breach of the acceptable use section above, or that is placing the service at risk.

Subscriptions and payment

Paid plans are billed in advance for the period you choose. Prices are shown on the pricing page before you commit, and payment is handled by our payment provider — we never receive or store your card details.

Cancelling stops the next renewal. Your plan continues until the end of the period you have already paid for, then reverts to Free. Nothing you have already downloaded is affected.

Limits of liability

Always keep your original files. Although processing is designed to be lossless and is verified after every operation, you should not rely on this service as the only copy of anything you care about.

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from use of the service. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.

Changes

We may update these terms. Material changes will be reflected in the date below, and continuing to use the service after a change means accepting the updated terms.
