Supported formats
This table is generated from the same capability definitions the engine uses to decide what it will do, so it describes real behaviour rather than intent. Where an operation is unavailable, the reason is given.
The two C2PA columns cover Content Credentials — the provenance record some cameras and editing tools embed. “Detect” means this build can tell you whether one is present; a blank cell means it cannot look, which is not the same as there being none. “Remove” is never part of a metadata clean: it happens only when you ask for it explicitly. Nothing here verifies whether a record is genuine.

Notes by format
All notesEach note is written beside the parser it describes. Open one to read it whole.
One card per format. Drag the strip, swipe it, or use the arrow keys once it has focus.
Writable fields by format
How many fields the editor can write into each format. The keys themselves are one click away, because the count is the part most people came for.

Writable fields
These are the metadata fields the editor can write, each backed by a real encoder that produces a valid tag. Fields not listed here cannot be written by this build, and the interface does not offer them.

Conversion
27 conversions, every one of them run in a browser against a real file of that format before it was listed here — the file is named in the last column. Conversion happens in your browser like everything else: the codecs are served from this site, fetched only when a conversion needs one, and the size below is what that costs the first time.

What is not offered, and why
- Video
- Video conversion is not in this build. The only browser tool that does it downloads about thirty megabytes before it starts and runs out of memory on a phone, which is worse than not offering it. Reading, cleaning and editing a video works as it always has.
- Anything into HEIC
- Converting other image formats into HEIC encoding is not offered here because HEVC encoders are patent-encumbered, which is a different problem from a hard one, and a file almost nothing outside Apple will open is a poor thing to convert to in any case. Existing HEIC files can be inspected, cleaned, edited losslessly or converted out to JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF or PDF.
- Anything into a document other than PDF
- A picture can be wrapped in a PDF because a PDF can carry a JPEG exactly as it stands, losing nothing. Writing a Word or Pages file means writing an office format, which is a different product rather than a missing feature.
- A PDF with more than one page
- Only the first page is converted, because the output is a single picture. A document with more pages says so before you start, and says how many are being left behind.
- An encrypted or password-protected PDF
- A document that will not open without a password cannot be rendered, and this build does not ask for one. Remove the protection in the application that applied it, then convert the result.
Not supported yet
GIF and TIFF are recognised by the detector but cannot yet be read, so a file in one of them is declined by name rather than accepted and silently mishandled. Formats absent from this page altogether — AVI, MKV, FLAC and OGG among them — have no reader here at all. The engine is built around per-format modules behind a shared interface, so adding one is a matter of writing its parser rather than reworking the application; this list is generated from the same table as everything above, which is why it shrinks on its own when a parser lands.
Common questions
Are my files uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything on this site runs inside your browser using local JavaScript. Your file is read into memory, processed, and handed back to you as a download. It is never sent to a server, so there is nothing on our side to store or delete.
Does removing metadata reduce image quality?
No. Metadata lives in separate sections of the file from the compressed image data. We rewrite only those sections and copy the image data across unchanged, so a cleaned JPEG is pixel-for-pixel identical to the original. There is no recompression.
Does cleaning a video re-encode it?
No. Only the container is rewritten. The encoded video and audio streams are copied verbatim, so cleaning a large video takes seconds rather than minutes and the quality is untouched.
How do I know the metadata is really gone?
After processing, the finished file is read back from scratch and analysed again, then shown next to the original. The figures you see are measured from the result rather than assumed, and anything that survived is listed explicitly.
Which file types are supported?
JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC/HEIF, AVIF, MP4, QuickTime MOV, WebM, PDF, MP3, WAV and M4A can be analysed. All of them can be cleaned, and JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC/HEIF, AVIF, MP4, QuickTime MOV, PDF, MP3, WAV and M4A can be edited. Cleaning and editing never change the format: a HEIC is written back as a HEIC and an M4A as an M4A. Converting between formats is a separate tool, and it tells you what the conversion cost.
Can social networks still see my location after cleaning?
A cleaned file carries no location. Bear in mind that platforms also learn things from the upload itself, such as your IP address and account, which no file-cleaning tool can change.
